BMW offers this course to train drivers that might find themselves on the wrong side of town or the wrong side of a war. This advanced course teaches to keep your vehicle safely on the road and keep you safely cool-headed when coming up against a potential threat. In the course, participants get to practice sophisticated maneuvers under the guidance of internationally experienced experts. Fast lane changes, avoiding obstacles and P.I.T.T. Maneuvers are all on the menu for foiling the bad guys and getting home safely.
The course, an intensive 2 days of hands-on training, teaches participants on an isolated Cold War airport property, deep inside East Germany, where high-speed chases and controlled explosions won’t raise the eyebrows of curious neighbors. For the tuition, you and 7 classmates will get full room and board, plus all the Driving Dynamics Theory and Exercises you need to get you started in the world of dangerous road trips. The M Division introduced the 2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe at the North America International Auto Show in Detroit last month to a crowd of eager onlookers and journalists. The M Division, which typically focuses solely on performance increases, took a different direction with the 1 Series M Coupe by not only building the best performance package possible upon a 135i frame, but also making it incredibly economical. Despite making no compromises in design, M delivered the most economical M Series, yet.
“It would have been easy”, says Kay Segler president of BMW’s M division,” to build another uber performance car, but we perceived a need for a less expensive model for the younger enthusiast.”
When building the super coupe, M Division paid close attention to the curb weight. An aluminum-intensive suspension similar to the M3’s was adapted to keep it light and bring the 1 Series M Coupe well under the weight of a stock 135i. An inline 6 engine graces the latest M, which produces 335 HP. Thanks to the lighter body weighing 400 pounds less, this does wonders for the 1 Series M Coupe’s track times. A broader stance also distinguishes the new M, as well as the significantly modified front grille, quad tailpipes and larger scoops which feed cool air to the front brakes. It will be available in three colors: black, white and a memorable Valencia orange. The orange model will also be complimented by matching orange stitching on the black upholstery.
South Florida has always been a region with a heavy emphasis on car customization. It’s part of that liberal spirit that comes with the sunshine. The 2011 BMW 1 Series M should lure plenty of young engineers away from the temptations of other brands and get them under the hood of the finest Germany has to offer. BMW announced recently a dynamic, new turbo four-cylinder will arrive in the US before 2012.
“We will soon announce what vehicles will feature this dynamic new turbo 4-cylinder in the US. And, they will arrive before year-end. We invite you to stay tuned”, said BMWNA CEO Jim O’Donnel.
This new four-cylinder TwinPower 2.0 engine, named the N20, will produce 245 horsepower plus 258 lb-ft of torque and will makes its first appearance in the current “European Market Only” X1 xDrive28i. It allows mating to a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic variant. BMW’s lips are sealed on which models will be receiving this engine, but the expert speculators over at www.bmwblog.com suspect it will appear on an American-released X1, the X3, the 1 Series and Z4.
It is interesting news, as BMW is at the top of its game designing smaller engines little compromise in power. The introduction of performance 4-cylinder engines should open a whole new door in terms of performance vs. efficiency, and will help keep our South Florida clients in an exhilarating ride without the worry of rising pump prices and less efficient engines.
The 4-cylinder in the video is not a BMW engine – it is just a garden-variety model of an engine like it, included here because there’s no official collateral on the BMW one, and we kind of like the way it magically assembles itself. Quite hyponotic!
BMW has a new app out, this time it is designed to help you park. The new ParkingAssistant, which is currently only available for iPhone iPad and iTouch, helps you out two ways. First, it serves as a timer for the meter expiration. Next it also helps you locate where you parked, be it garage or curbside. To activate it, you merely set the timer as you leave the vehicle and the app does the rest, ensuring you’ll never forget your remaining meter time, or just where on that enormous street you parked your car. Most of us push our luck with the metered time, so it will even tell you the amount of time it is going to take to get back to your car to refresh the meter with some fresh coinage.
It even has a special setting for multi-storey garages, so you can avoid the frustration of getting off on floor 3 when your car is on floor 4. It’s free and available now on iTunes, and anyplace else you can score Apple Apps. Check it out.
The Pink Floyd Experience is here. This extreme cover band has been plying its specialty since 1997, dishing out perhaps the most authentic homage to one of the most unique rock and roll bands to take the stage – Pink Floyd.
